DES-Eval: An evalution framework for wireless networking experiments on the DES-Testbed

The DES-Testbed Management System (DES-TBMS) is a experimentation framework for the wireless mesh and sensor network called DES-Testbed. The framework supports the automatized execution of experiments and will be extended in this work with an evaluation module (DES-Eval) that provides the functionality to post-process  experiment results.

DES-Eval should automatically calculate measures, such as the median, standard deviation, and confidence intervals. A Java application (web-based or stand-alone) should be designed and implemented that allows to visualize the obtained results using plots and charts. It will be investigated to what degree DES-Eval can estimate the credibility and validity of the experimentally gathered results.

Helpful skills:

  • Interest in hot topics of experimental-driven wireless network research
  • Coding experience (Java, Python, SQL)

Objectives:

  • Acquire knowledge in experiment methodology and wireless mesh and sensor networks
  • Design a software architecture for a web-based or Java stand-alone evaluation suite
  • Implement and evaluate the approach by defining meaningful experiments on the wireless mesh and sensor network
