DES-SERT in Kernel Space

The DES-SERT routing framework supports the implementation of routing protocols in user space. Due to the user / kernel space context switches, a delay is introduced and the throughput decreased. Therefore a kernel space based port would increase the overall performance.

Objectives

• Get familiar with DES-SERT
• Get familiar with kernel programming and kernel modules
• Port DES-SERT to kernel space
• No modifications to routing daemons shall be required to use them in kernel space
• Routing protocols in kernel space should be usable like the daemons when used in experiments
