Mobile Nodes for the DES-Testbed
The DES-Testbed offers a sophisticated setup for experimentation and evaluation of wireless multi-hop networks. Over one hundred wireless mesh routers, equipped with three IEEE 802.11 transceivers and one MSB-A2 sensor node, allow real world heterogenous network experiments.
As of now, every node is fixed to its location inside one of three buildings on the campus. In reality, wireless devices are often mobile. In order to experiment with next-generation wireless algorithms and protocols, it is necessary to extend the DES-Testbed with mobile nodes. These have to be integrated into the testbed management framework, taking into account the requirements of scientific ecperimentation like repeatability etc.
Objectives
- Get an overview of the challenges posed by adding mobile nodes into an otherwise static experimentation platform
- Assemble and deploy the hardware for mobile nodes for the DES-Testbed
- Extend the DES-Testbed management framework with support for mobile nodes
