Protocols in Wireless Networks
IPv4 and TCP+UDP are currently the dominating protocols in wired and wireless networks. While IPv6 will (hopefuly) soon replace version 4, SCTP and DCCP are rarly used. Additionally, there is little to no experience with these protocols in wireless networks. Some of the provided features may actually benefit wireless mesh networks or mobile ad-hoc networks but a study is required to evaluate the applicability and to show the potential of the protocols.
Objectives
- Get familar with IPv6, SCTP, and DCCP
- Discuss the changes and improvements regarding IPv4, TCP, and UDP
- Specify and run experiments in the DES-Testbed to evaluate the performance of these protocols
