Routing in Mobile Networks
The IETF Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) working group has published several RFCs about routing protocols for mobile networks. Based on the DES-SERT routing framework we currently have more than 10 variants of protocols and have gotten experience from experiments run in the DES-Testbed. Our results indicate that routing to and from mobile nodes is hardly possible. The routes are updated and usable only when the mobile node stops for several seconds. Several parameters have to be tuned and the protocols adapted before mobile networks will be possible. A sound study is required to optimize the routing.
Objectives
- Get familar with our routing protocol implementations
- Run initial experiments carrying a mobile device and measure the packet delivery ratio, throughput, delay, etc
- Specify further experiments and consider how you can achieve a higher degree of mobility
- Run an experiment series in the testbed to optimize the adaptivity of the routing protocols
- Evaluate your data
