Research Area

The Distributed, embedded Systems (DES) work group is involved in research in the area of pervasive, wireless, and mobile communications.

Our work group addresses the following research topics:

• Internet of Things (IoT)

• Ad-hoc, wireless, mobile, sensor, and mesh networks

• Routing in above networks

• Self-organization in mobile, wireless networks

• Application of Swarm Intelligence in mobile, wireless networks

Besides the research topics we are also interested in research methodology, i.e., how can we do research in a scientific sound way and which methodology is appropriate for particular topics. Our research motto is "From Simulations to Testbeds". Although simulation is an important approach for research recent studies has shown that current simulation models for wireless networks have too much simplicities to be useful and thus the results can not be transferred into reality.
